Pottery
Pottery is a primitive art which dates back to before Ancient Egyptian civilisations.
Making Pottery involves hand building, shaping, wheel throwing or sculpting a vessel or art form out of clay. These objects are then fired in a large oven (called a kiln) and become as strong as stone.
There are many types of clay, decoration styles, glazing techniques and firing temperatures. In modern pottery, most items are fired to bisque (1000?) then glazed and fired a second time to a higher temperature.
Pottery is an activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. The Shorncliffe Pottery Club Inc has been potting in the local area for 30 years and now has become part of the Sandgate PCYC.
