Aikido
What is Aikido
Aikido is a highly refined martial art. It was developed this century as a means of self-defence and spiritual training. The art of Aikido develops coordination of the mind and body. Through its philosophy and techniques Aikido brings us into harmony with our environment, other people and ourselves.
Our Friendly Environment
The Aikido dojo (meaning ‘place of the way’) at
the Sandgate PCYC provides a secure and friendly
environment where one can begin to see and
understand their fears, anxieties, reactions and
habits. Aikido training is entirely non-competitive
and fosters an attitude of support and cooperation.
Who Can Do Aikido? Unlike many martial arts Aikido does not advantage those with greater strength or speed. It is practiced successfully by people of all ages and abilities and for this reason classes are not age restricted.
Why Aikido? Aikido develops flexibility, coordination, concentration, improved health and fitness, effective communication skills and self-esteem.
What to Wear You can wear loose comfortable clothing to start with. When you have made a commitment to Aikido you may like to purchase a gi to train in.
Training
You need to commit to training 2 times per week
to attain that condition of being in which
philosophy, technique, attitude and spirit merge. Our Instructor Our Aikido instructor Brad Wilkinson is highly experienced and qualified.
